Altenew Build a Flower Poinsettia for my AECP Class Called Easy Die Cut Techniques!

Spread the love

Hello…. Dawn here! Hope everyone had a wonderful Christmas yesterday. I know that times are challenging and a lot of people didn’t get to see their families for the Christmas holiday. I myself had a crazy Christmas. We had a storm Christmas Eve and my husband is a store manager at a grocery store and part of the roof blew off of his store. So needless to say he spent half of Christmas day at the store. I have to say my children were good sports and waited until 8:00pm to open their gifts from Santa. They didn’t want their dad to miss seeing them open the gifts up. With that being said, this post was supposed to get posted yesterday. But unfortunately that didn’t happen. So I am posting this Christmas card a day late. I know for myself I’m ready for a new year. I hope 2021 is a much better year!

As you know if you been following my YouTube channel and blog, I’ve been taking classes at the Altenew Academy to earn  my teaching Certificate. This is my 9th class and it’s called Easy Die Cut Techniques. This class is taought by the amazing Yana Smakula. She had some really great techniques to share with everyone. In this course I learned how to stack a die cut and use it to make an impression on a piece of card stock.

This card is very similar to the last card I made, with a few added changes.

So let’s get started on the Card.

Today I am using the Altenew BAF Poinsettia . The poinsettia has 3 layers to it and one outline layer.  I will also be using  the Altenew Hanging Garden Die Set. This set comes with two leaf dies. One small one and one a little bigger. I will be using both of them to make a die impression as the background to my card.

First, using my Gemini Jr, I die cut 3 each of the hanging foliage dies. I do 2 sets of the large foliage  so you will need to cut out  6 of them and 1 set of the small foliage. Using my E6000 spray glue.  I glue 3 of the large foliage dies together and set it aside. I glue the next 3 large foliage dies together and set it aside. I glue the 3 small foliage dies together. These will be used to make impressions in my card stock.

Next, I take a piece of Neenah Classic Crest 110lb card stock cut to 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″ and I place the glued die cuts where I want them laid out on my card stock to make a design for the background of my card. Then I use the Embossing pad from spellbinder and place it on the clear die cutting plate of the Gemini jr. I place my card stock with my foliage die cuts on it on the spellbinder embossing mat and then place another clear die cutting plate over it and run it through the Gemini Jr.

When done, the card stock should have the die impressions of the foliage on it. I then trim this panel down to 4 1/4″ x 3 3/4″.

Next, I take a piece of My Favorite Things Red Hot card stock cut to 5 1/2″ x 4 1/4″. Using the Honey Bee Scalloped A2 Card Frames, I die cut just one of the edges. I do not run the whole die through the die cut machine. I do a partial die cut. Once the edge that I want cut goes through the machine, I stop and go back the other way. (see picture below) I used my Spellbinder Platinum 6 for this technique.

Next, I glue the white poinsettia embossed panel onto the red cardstock.

Then, I glue a piece of craft from to the back of the red card stock.

I glue the panel to a piece of Neenah card stock that is a top folding A2 size card. I trim off the excess of white paper right under the scalloped edge. (see picture below)

Now, I stamp my poinsettia using my Misti Stamping Tool. The Misti helps me when I have to do layered stamping. First, I prep my paper with my Embossing Powder Bag. Then, I stamp the outline image using Versamark ink. Next, I pour Ranger Gold Embossing Powder onto the card stock. When my Heat Tool is good and hot. I heat emboss my image.

Now I take the most solid image of the poinsettia and stamp it on to the embossed out line image using the Altenew Blush ink. Make sure to press down really good to give it a nice impression. Then I stamp the second layer of the poinsettia with the Altenew Rouge Ink and the last layer with the Altenew Crimson Ink.

I then stamp the solid image of the center of the flower with the Altenew Sunkissed Ink. I stamp the second image of the center of the flower with the Altenew Orange Cream Ink. For the final layer of the center of the flower, I just used the Altenew the Orange Cream again.

Next, I die cut the poinsettia out using the Altenew Poinsettia die. Then I set it aside for later.

I put the hanging floral panel into my Misti Stamping tool so I can stamp the sentiment onto the bottom of the panel. I prep my paper with the embossing powder bag and then stamp the sentiment “Celebrate the Joys of Christmas” from the Altenew BAF Poinsettia stamp set with Versamark Ink. Then I cover the sentiment with Ranger Gold embossing powder and when my heat tool is good and hot, I heat emboss the sentiment.

Next, I die cut 2 of the small Hanging Garden dies from Gold Foil Card stock. I trim away the berries because I won’t be using them on this card. Then I place leaves where I want them to go on the card and I glue them down. I put foam tape onto the back of the poinsettia and adhere it onto the top of the gold leaves.

I take some Fun Stampers Pearls and randomly place them on the card. I take the entire front panel and glue it onto a piece of Neenah Classic Crest 110lb cardstock.

That completes my card for today.
